Supplementary PPT Modules

The mission of Smiles for Life is to produce educational resources to ensure the integration of oral health and primary care. To that end, we have developed additional downloadable PowerPoint modules to supplement the core eight. These modules are intended for training in a large group, small group, or classroom setting. The content is only available as a downloadable PPT (no online version), so we are not able to offer continuing education (CE) credit for these presentations (see FAQs in About Us section for additional information about CE credit for group presentations).

Global Oral Health Module

This presentation aims to define global oral health, describe epidemiology, discuss principles of promoting oral health, building health capacity, and working with stakeholders, as well as to identify resources and skills for global oral health best practices for non-dental providers and apply this global oral health approach to new immigrant and refugee care.

A special note of appreciation to Dr. Brittany Seymour, Dr. Brian J Swann, Dr. Hugh Silk, and Dr. Inyang Isong for their authoring and consulting efforts on this module.

Front Line Health Worker Module

The audience for this presentation is Front Line Health Workers (FLHW) who provide outreach, advocacy, patient education, care coordination, health care navigation, and social support for the communities they serve. This workforce includes community health workers and representatives, promotores de salud, health educators, case managers, care coordinators, public health workers, community health advocates, health advisors or advocates, patient navigators, outreach workers, family resource workers, and peer health promoters.

The presentation reviews the relationship between oral health and overall health, prevalence and impact of oral diseases, barriers to maintaining oral health, strategies to promote oral health equity, and opportunities to integrate oral health into FLHW practice.

This module is the product of the vision and talent of Anita Glicken, MSW and Lisa-Renee Holderby-Fox, LSWA. Smiles for Life is grateful for their partnership in this work.

Canadian Modules

These presentations utilize the Smiles for Life 8 core module material and contextualize to a Canadian primary care audience. Child oral health course is below and the remaining 7 courses are undergoing review with plans to unveil in 2017-2018.

We wish to formally recognize Dr. Anne Rowan-Legg, Dr. Andrea Feller and the Niagara Region Public Health Staff, Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, Dr. John O'Keefe, and Dr. Euan Swan for their contributions to the creation of this module.
