Subtle Tooth Abnormalities

In the photos to the right, note the tan discoloration between the upper teeth and on the lingual surface. These indicate the presence of early childhood caries. This child's parents should be counseled on appropriate diet and oral hygiene measures, and an immediate dental referral should be arranged.

Other subtle tooth abnormalities include plaque accumulation (usually at the gumline), enamel defects, white demineralized areas, and chipped enamel.

The photos to the right demonstrate subtle findings in high risk areas that are important not to miss.
