Caries Prevention – Sealants

Dental sealants are thin, white protective coatings painted on the chewing surface of the teeth, typically the back molars.

Sealants are important in caries management as they arrest and prevent cavities in pits and fissures of primary and permanent molars in children and adolescents. Sealants can also minimize the progression of initial caries in occlusal teeth.

Sealants should be encouraged at age appropriate dental visits.
