The Relationship of Oral and Systemic Health

This course addresses the nature, prevalence, and consequences of oral disease throughout the life cycle with a focus on correlations between oral and systemic health. Clinicians will learn their role in preventing oral disease, addressing frequently encountered oral problems, and working as part of an inter-professional team to promote oral health.

Educational Objectives for the Relationship of Oral to Systemic Health Course:

  • Define the meaning of oral health and the prevalence and consequences of oral disease
  • Recognize relationships between oral and systemic disease
  • Highlight the role of primary care and community health teams in promoting oral health
  • Describe the concepts and impact of inter-professional education and collaborative practice
